Reunion

Last weekend was my 10th year Columbia Business School reunion. It was a lot of fun seeing almost everybody after such a long time… I got to spend time with good friends, friends and acquaintances and every second I spent with them felt like a shot of the best tasty wine and chocolate through my soul! I liked everybody even more now than I liked them when I was in school with them! The most amazing thing is that even though we are all the same, we have all evolved into a different more seasoned animal, with better social manners, less awkwardness and bigger smiles.

I literally feel like everybody I saw was better looking, more fun, interesting, alluring and sexy than they were ten years ago. Each one of them perspired confidence, calmness and assertiveness. They were all less interested in being right and more interested in listening about other points of view and trying to understand them. Every one of them seemed more comfortable in their own skins, feet strongly rooted to the ground, frank eye contact and nervous laughter replaced by broad welcoming smiles.

What is it that happens to us when we age? Is it just time or is it a combination of inevitable maturity, increased responsibility, acknowledged vulnerability and every day life brutal reality that makes people more in touch with their true selves? I felt like they were not trying anymore to shine by showing off but by lighting up from within. I truly experienced an incredible feeling of comfort, of belonging and of acceptance amongst the people I saw, rather than the former feeling of shyness, awkwardness, self questioning and insecurity I used to feel ten years ago…

I loved feeling the aura of allure, attractiveness and sexiness emanated by everyone I touched…

Hurrah for the goodness of aging gracefully, for the wisdom provided by the passage of time, for the soul self-discovery gifted by our children and families and for those wrinkles, extra pounds and white hairs that look just so perfect with a confident smile!!
